The ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim, Germany, is one of the leading economic research institutes in Europe. The ZEW is a non-profit organization and works in the field of frontier empirical economic research and high-level policy advice. It is integrated into an extensive national and international network of universities and research institutes. The ZEW is looking to fill the following position in the Research Department "Environmental and Climate Economics"

6-Year Postdoc with Option for a Permanent Contract (f/m/d, 100%)

    As a successful applicant, you will contribute to the research agenda of the Research Department of Environmental and Climate Economics. The position provides the opportunity to develop an independent research agenda in an academically vibrant environment. It is expected that applicants will show interest in engaging with projects that connect cutting-edge research with high-level economic policy advice.
    The position is embedded in the research area “Market Mechanisms and Decarbonization Policies".

    Key Responsibilities
    •Develop and pursue your own research agenda while contributing to the unit’s broader research program
    •Conduct research aimed at publication in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals
    •Support the unit’s policy advisory work, including policy reports and outputs for stakeholders
    •Be part of a collaborative and internationally connected research environment

    About you

    •PhD in Economics (or a closely related field) completed by August 2026 
    •Research interests in environmental, climate, public, or applied microeconomics
    •Experience with economic equilibrium models and simulation-based work is an asset
    •Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently
    •Excellent writing skills

    •A full-time position for two years, with the option to extend for up to three additional years and a possible further one-year extension
